Peterbilt 359
« on: October 07, 2007, 09:43:22 PM »

After looking at lots of images I think the textures I used are from a 359 (and not a 379).
Several custom props, some remade a few times.

Just put the .zip in the packs folder.

Feel free to modify, and if you need help with the custom props just ask.

There are some invisible polygons around the truck that act as the contacter-polys/collision-box.
They cause some visual irregulareties when using stencil-shadows.

Download here: Peterbilt359.zip

Edit:
Someone asked for a version with no sleeper cab and a longer frame. See attachment.  ;)
Note: it needs the original Peterbilt files to be installed (packs or trucks folder) becasue it needs the same props and textures.

Edit, again:
Two more variations of the 359, a 4x2 daycab with short frame and decreased turning radius, and an 8x6 with sleepercab and a bit more power.

I've just tried it and it's brilliant. You've really captured the look of the prototype, and the truck itself has a very professional finish. It really shows the need for more exhaust nodes though, but that's a Pricorde/Thomas issue.

I'd like to make a custom skin and drive around multiplayer with it.

 :)

Absolutely awesome truck. I'll be trucking with this one regularly. :D

I'm curious to know if the turn radius is realistic - I honestly don't know, so I'm not trying to say it's wrong; it feels a little large, but maybe that's realistic... regardless, this puppy is fun to drive.

The details are great - you did a hell of a job. I especially love the mudflaps. :D

Longnose Pete's aren't famous for their tight turning circles in real life because they don't have any...They're notorious for having NO turning circle, I think this is super-realistic.

PSST: To make turning circle tighter, find the hydros and make the number after the decimal point bigger. Steering will increase alot.

Then please forgive the undeserved comment, and let me reiterate just what a cool truck it is. :D

I couldn't get the textures aligned from top to bottom. Front to back stripes should work, but bonnet/roof to side may need some adjusting to get it right.
I have a layered image of the textures if anyone needs it. (Paint Shop Pro format)

What are the wheel faces off? They look like ford truck hubcaps  ;)

I found them on Google, they were from the side with not too many reflections and didn't look too car-like.

I'm curious to know if the turn radius is realistic - I honestly don't know

I wasn't sure either, but tighter turning made the wheels unstable (at speed)

That happens with any truck or trailer, if the trailer touches the wheels.

Ok so I took a look at my dad's 379 Longnose. The Wheels come to about 45 degrees when turned fully, the RoR 359 goes to about 40 degrees, So I'd say it's pretty realistic, considering the 359 didn't turn as well (or so I'm told)
