paid subscriptions
« on: February 15, 2010, 12:47:29 AM »
We just created a "Bronze donator" member group.
You can join this group for 10 euro/year.
By joining this group you will help us to refund the server costs and you get some features:

- Bronze donator award/badge thingy (
) in the forums (profile and posts)
- forum ads completely disabled
- ability to delete your own posts
- ability to upload and send attachments via PM (everyone can receive attachments via PM though)

you can subscribe there: http://forum.rigsofrods.com/index.php?action=profile;area=subscriptions

FAQ:
- who can join?
all members are able to join (normal, invited, mods, RRR) (except banned and suspended ones)

- what about donating USD?
all currency is converted to euros upon transaction, so 10 euros will be around 14 USD

- what does the silver or gold group provide more?
it is from the features exactly the same as the the bronze group atm (however this might change). These groups just exists atm to help us a bit more :)

- do you process this by hand or what?
no, the forum tracks the subscription status and pay process completely.

- if i am misbehaving or RRR member, does donating get me out of this.
no, members who donate gain some more feature, but no special treatment yet. Misbehavior will be treated the same as for all members.

- what happens if i abuse the features that are offered with the subscription (share illegal software, etc)
your subscription is immediately removed when we have admissible evidence. (and your account may get banned)

- what if i get banned?
no special treatment for bronze members - same rules apply as for normal members.

if you have questions / comments / remarks, please let us know :)

Exactly. Shouldnt we all? I mean this is just like buying a scoop of ice cream from an ice cream truck with no cone shouldnt the ice cream have a cone? No offense, im just sayin

A. This way we can see what people posted. If you posted something offensive, it's there for the whole world to see. You can't just make a ninja-delete and claim you never said that.

Evidently now if you pay you can make these ninja-deletions.

B. That's a really terrible metaphor. It bears no resemblance to the situation at all.

I just noticed the Silver Donator usergroup, what are the differences between that and Bronze?

Never forget 30/08/10.

added one more bronze feature:

- ability to upload and send attachments via PM (everyone can receive attachments via PM though)

this can be used to distribute mods or closed beta's to certain people only an to no-one else.

But couldn't someone that posted something offensive just edit his/her post to say something else?

They shouldn't. Its for the world to see and it would be a learning experience to get shoved around about it.

I agree with the donation group, it will take in some much needed funds for commercially improving RoR... i.e. paying for professional addons and services within RoR.

The subscription link brings me to a German Paypal site. Can I just use that site? It's pretty self-explanatory and I can use a translator.

I like that you haven't taken things away from non-donators, but just given things to donators. I'll donate when I've linked my bank account to PayPal.

tried to fix the paypal page, no luck yet. I will continue to try to fix it :/

Its something about trust from the community towards us and that we shouldnt disappoint you.
I really hope that we dont destroy this trust with offering additional services for some donation.

I know it is not destroying trust from me! And I really like how much work you have put into the forums!

Would it be possible to have your status change from "normal member" to "bronze member" along with the badge thingy?
